1890s
During the 1890s, the city built a seawall from Powell to Taylor Streets, the Sutro Baths opened, the Cliff House and the Baldwin Hotel burned down, the Midwinter Fair was celebrated in Golden Gate Park, and soldiers rioted at the Presidio.
